A few years ago Porsche resurrected the ‘T’ suffix from its past, which stands for Touring. The letter was first used in 1968 on a 911. The car was a purer, most focussed driving machine shorn of unnecessary elements. In 2018, Porsche dusted off the Touring nameplate and attached it to a 911. This was followed up with T versions of the 718 range (read more here). Today the company announced the introduction of the Macan T.

Less is more

The Macan T marks the first time a four-door model bears the letter. The Macan T features a dynamic set-up paired with a lightweight engine to earn the ‘T’ badge. In addition, is also boasts specific design cues and a unique set of standard equipment. Under the bonnet of the Macan T is the smallest engine available in any modern Porsche. The 2,0-litre engine develops 195 kW along with 400 N.m of torque. Incidentally, Porsche says it chose this engine as it weighs almost 60 kg less than the twin-turbo V6 unit as found in the range-topping GTS.

Power from the turbocharged motor is transmitted through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK). Torque is delivered to the tar by an all-wheel drive system, which has a rear-wheel-drive bias. The claimed acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 6,2 seconds with a top speed of 232 km/h. The ride height is lowered by 15 mm and the anti-roll bar between the front wheels is more rigid for better control through the twisties.

Unique inside and out

There are a number of model-specific design cues on the Macan T. Among these are Agate Grey Metallic on the front, flanks and rear. The front trim, exterior mirrors, side blades, roof spoiler and logos on the rear are all covered in this hue. Furthermore, the tailpipe finishers, and window trim are finished in high-gloss black. 20-inch Macan S wheels are painted in dark titanium for this derivative.

Eight-way electrically adjustable sports seats are standard up front. These feature black leather package upholstery and an embossed Porsche crest on the front headrests. Silver stitching is applied on the seats, headrests and steering wheel. Other standard items include a multifunction GT sports steering wheel, similar to that found in the 911, and a Sport Chrono stopwatch on the dashboard. The door step sills are black aluminium and feature a Macan T logo.
