The debate has raged for decades: which side of the Atlantic makes better performance cars, the USA or Europe? UK automotive website Car Wow usually races the best of Europe, but this week they try to answer the age-old question. For the muscle car vs sportscar drag race they have lined up a Dodge Challenger Demon and a new Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Supercharged V8

Powering one of Detroit’s quickest accelerating muscle cars is a supercharged 6,2-litre V8. The force-fed motor cranks out over just over 600 kW on pump fuel, with a maximum of 972 N.m of torque. Dodge claims the Demon can blitz the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. But that time is achieved on 100 RON fuel and on a prepped drag strip.

Twin-turbocharged flat-six

Taking on the Demon is one of the quickest accelerating sportscars available on sale today, the Porsche 911 Turbo S. The 992 series 911 has 478 kW of power at 6 750 r/min and develops 800 N.m of torque from a twin-turbocharged flat-six motor that displaces just shy of 3,8 litres. The lower power output is sent to all four corners through a permanently engaged all-wheel-drive system. We drove the Porsche 911 Turbo S and you can read our review here.
