The crash came after a Safety Car restart for an earlier on-track incident. As racing restarted the field as bunched up through the slow hairpin that is Turn 1 (aka La Source). Three drivers ran door-to-door on the run down to the famous Eau Rouge. As the rivals’ cars jostled for position there was a coming together. Raul Guzman and Jonathan Cecotto were involved with the latter coming off worst of the trio. Cecotto’s Lamborghini Trofeo slammed into the guard rail and bounced back into the path of the oncoming cars. Fortunately all the cars behind managed to avoid the stricken racecar as the red flag was pulled out. The Lamborghini Super Trofeo crash damage was so severe as to postpone the start of the 24 Hours of Spa.
