The BMW M4 range seems quite well set, if a little expansive. Soon, it seems, BMW will be adding another M4 to the mix if this M4 GTS recently spotted testing is anything to go by.

Covering all bases

Opening the range is a ‘regular’ M4 (317 kW), to that, you can add a Competition pack which lifts power to 331 kW. Then there’s the slightly more powerful (338 kW) and fractionally lighter M4 CS.

A step up from that is the even more powerful (368 kW) and even lighter DTM. Quite similar in execution is the M4 GTS, also with 368 kW. The latter two were made in extremely limited numbers. Still with me?

Another addition

Well, if these images are to be believed there’s yet another M4 on the cards, and it seems this will be the most hardcore model yet. This test mule was spotted around and on the Nurburgring yesterday doing laps. The badge says it’s a GTS but the bodywork suggests otherwise.

The front bumper features a longer splitter, there are air outlets on the front fender and deeper side skirts. Most notable is the twin-deck rear spoiler and pronounced diffuser. With all the bolt-on aero bits this car looks like a runaway from a local Clubman’s racing series

Return of the CSL?

Race fans may remember the 3,0 CSL from the 1970s with its massive rear wing and other aero addenda, which earned it the ‘Batmobile’ nickname. At the very end of the E46 M3’s lifecycle, we were presented with a lightweight powerful model known as the CSL.

As the badge seems to be reserved for special models, and we have not seen it for some time, could the car above be the M4 CSL? Wouldn’t that be great? We’ll keep an eye out for more info and check in with our industry spies regarding the next M4.
