Mismatched pair…?

The two cars in the Ferrari vs McLaren drag race are not exactly direct rivals. For one, McLaren doesn’t produce any front-engined cars, so the Ferrari 812 Superfast and McLaren 600LT are already at odds.

The Italian car boasts a naturally aspirated V12 under its long bonnet. This 6,5-litre engine develops a whopping 588 kW at 8 500 r/min and 720 N.m of torque at 7 000. Power is sent to the rear axle through a dual-clutch transmission, in true GT car fashion.

The McLaren 600 LT is powered by a 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 441 kW along with 620 N.m of twist effort. In the case of the McLaren the engine is mounted behind the cabin. Power, however, is still sent to the rear wheels via a similar transmission system. Learn more about the track special at this link.

Both cars have an automated launch control function to remove as much drive skill from the equation as possible. From the figures above it would seem that the Prancing Horse has the measure of the Woking machine. However, there is the small matter of a 500-odd kg mass difference to the detriment of the Ferrari.
