BMW is rolling along at full steam with the new product offensive concerning the new 8 series range. Just a few days ago we brought you images, info and SA pricing of the 8 Series Convertible. Now we have BMW M8 engine specs.

A full house

When BMW launched the 8 series range, it confirmed that a host of new derivatives will form the line-up. The Coupe was quickly followed by a drop-top. The apex M8 will soon be followed by a four-door Gran Coupe.

This new info regarding the BMW M8 engine specs was released by the company just a few days ago. The BMW M8 Coupe will be joined by an M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe in 2019.

Performance halo

The performance 8 series will feature a high-revving, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The exact power figure has not been clarified but BMW states that will be in excess of 440 kW.

Power is fed to all wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The all-wheel-drive xDrive set-up has rear-wheel-bias, much like its M5 stablemate. Power is only sent to the front axle if the rear wheels have exceeded the friction limit. Drivers can also switch off the stability system and activate 2WD mode, turning the M8 into a pure rear-wheel-drive machine. An Active M Differential has a locking effect between 0 and 100 per cent.

Bespoke suspension

All suspension components involved in delivering kinematics and elastokinematics have been given a thorough rework for the M8. M compound brakes are fitted as standard on the new BMW M8. Carbon-ceramic stoppers are an option. 19-inch M light-alloy wheels are standard fitment on the BMW M8, optional 20-inch versions are available.

In his own words

“The new BMW M8 will elevate dynamic élan, agility and precision to a whole new level for its segment,” commented Markus Flasch, Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW M GmbH. This is down in no small part to the extensive motorsport expertise of BMW M GmbH that was harnessed for production development of the BMW M8.
