We love a good restomod here at Double Apex. Whether it’s an old Alfa, Peugeot, Ford or Volvo. The idea of updating a classic really appeals as it gives old cars a new lease on life. The 355 by Evoluto is the latest to join the fray.

Ferrari Based

The 355 by Evoluto is, as you can probably tell, based on a Ferrari F355. However, the 55 customers who can order one have to supply their own donor car ie the company doesn’t buy, build and modify Ferraris. We are pretty sure there is some legality loophole being circumvented so Ferrari’s legal team doesn’t come knocking.

Each donor F355 is disassembled to its core, cleaned, strengthened with carbon fusing, and prepared for the next stages of customisation. The upgrades include additional carbon-fibre bracing and spot welds for a reported 23 percent increase in torsional rigidity. The carbon-fibre treatment continues with a body that is fashioned from the lightweight composite. As a result the 355 by Evoluto is said to weigh just 1 250 kg. Incidentally, the shape has been refreshed by Ian Callum.

Ferrari Power

The original engine now boasts over 200 new and redesigned components. As a result the flat-plane V8 now develops 313 kW, about 35 kW more than it did when it left the gates of Maranello. The naturally aspirated engine still has its high-revving nature and can zing all the way to 8 500 r/min. It should sound incredible with a new light-weight titanium sports exhaust system that has equal length headers. A six-speed manual transmission has been reworked in keep with the ‘peak analogue’ credo of the company. The car rides on forged 19-inch alloys fitted with, not-too-sticky, Michelin rubber so as to maintain a level of ‘playfulness’. We’ll put this claim to the test should we ever drive one.
