After a month-long wait, Formula 1 has graced us with a doubleheader. This week, Formula 1 returns to Miami with Max Verstappen leading the Drivers World Championship. However, the question remains if he would leave Miami in the top spot. Here are a few things you can expect at this week’s Miami Grand Prix.

1. Trouble at the Top

Sergio Perez has been in great form for the first few races of the 2023 Formula 1 season. While a mistake in Melbourne saw him drop down the field, the Mexican driver has secured two wins in four races.

Perez was candid about his performance and noted that he would be leading the world championship if not for the mistake in Melbourne. He has set his sights firmly on the World Championship and poses a significant threat to Max Verstappen.

Perez is known for his excellent performance around street tracks. This confidence should help him challenge Max and possibly take the lead in the championship race this weekend.

2. Mercedes vs Red Bull

The Sprint Race in Baku was dominated by a first-lap incident between George Russell and Max Verstappen. The defending world champion was visibly frustrated with the young Mercedes driver and even approached him after the race despite finishing in P2.

This hostility continued in the media pen, with both drivers taking a dig at the other. While we know that Mercedes is still a second off the pace, the tension could cause some action on the track. George has been taking all the chances he can get so far, showing no sign of slowing down.

3. Ferrari’s Surprising Pace

Ferrari shocked the paddock by snatching pole in Baku. This pace was unexpected since Ferrari didn’t bring any major upgrades to the track. They simply brought a new rear wing, just like every other team on the grid.

Will this pace translate to performance around Miami? The Miami circuit is fast but also has tight turns. This is where Ferrari is able to carry more speed and outpace the Red Bulls. When you take a step back and look at the top four teams, Ferrari seems likely to be the only team challenging Red Bull this weekend.

4. Aston Martin’s Problems

Aston Martin had a difficult weekend in Baku. The DRS system wasn’t working in some parts of qualifying and even in the Sprint Race. Despite this, Aston Martin still managed to perform well in the Grand Prix on Sunday.

If Aston Martin gets all of its problems under control, the team can be in contention with Mercedes and Ferrari. Alonso made note of the issues the team faced last week and indicated that the problems were fixed for this weekend.
