British sportscar maker Jensen is best known for producing the Interceptor (no relation to the SA Ford Cortina). The brand, like most other small-scale British automakers, fell by the wayside. But now it’s shaping up for a relaunch under the Jensen International Automotive banner. And it’s first product looks to be proper.

Concept Only

Most automakers follow a time-honoured tradition of launching a car, then a more powerful version, then someting more focused and eventually a track version. Jensen has flipped the script as the Jensen Interceptor GTX is a concept/track car, which will herald future road cars.

The styling, hidden under all that aggro aero, is a shape that is reminiscent of its biggest hit with a long bonnet and tear-drop shaped rear. Perhaps a foreshadowing of the upcoming road cars. The Interceptor GTX was crafted using a mix of artisanal coachwork methods and modern-day tech. The digitally designed body was was made primarily by hand from aluminum.

However, the wild, race-derived additions are there to get the headlines. Included in the package is a deep front splitter, low side skirts, a race-y looking diffuser and that mahoossive, GT3-syle rear wing. All together the aero kit is said to deliver a total of 350 kg of downforce.

BEEG power

And the Interceptor GTX will need some proper grip thanks to the firepower it is packing. Under the long, vented bonnet is a Chevy LS-derived engine. The supercharged V8 displaces 6,8 litres  and makes north of 670 kW (or 900 hp in old money). The press material says the engine can be tuned to deliver about 900 kW/1 500 N.m when needed.

A six-speed sequential gearbox, with both paddle and central shifter sends all that power to the rear axle. Between the engine and gearbox is a carbon-fibre propshaft. Suspension is handled by double wishbones at each corner.
