The Ferrari 812 SuperFast is a serious bit of machinery that sits at the top of the company’s current series production hierarchy (Read our Ferrari 812 SuperFast driving review at this link). For those who want to ruffle their hair with a V12 hair dryer then Ferrari offers an open-top version called the 812 GTS.

Ramping up

According to Ferrari, the 812 GTS is the most powerful production spider on sale today. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 6,5-litre V12 that produces 588 kW and 718 N.m of torque. Power is directed to the rear axle through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Ferrari says it can sprint to 100 km/h from standstill in under 3,0 seconds; flat out it will do a hair-ruffling 340 km/h. The folding hard-top can open in just 14 seconds at speeds of up to 45 km/h. Of course, if it has been through the workshop doors of one of Germany’s better-known tuning houses you can bet that it’s no longer standard.

The Novitec Ferrari 812 GTS boasts more power from the front-mounted V12 engine. With a Novitec exhaust system and less restrictive catalytic converters peak power is lifted to 618 kW at 8 750 r/min. Peak torque is now rated as 751 N.m at 7 300 r/min. These increases allow the big tourer to sprint from rest to 100 km/h in just 2,8 seconds. Top speed increases a fraction to 345 km/h.

Owners can control the sounds produced by the 110 mm exhausts by means of active exhaust flap control. If you are really serious the system can be finished with fine gold plating for ideal heat dissipation.

Bespoke appearance

The tuning house also gives the Novitec Ferrari 812 GTS its own distinct appearance. A front spoiler lip upgrades the front aspect. A three-piece lip was developed as an aerodynamic balance at the rear. New rocker panels, carbon-fibre mirror caps and side air outlets behind the front wheel arches are some of the changes seen in profile.

The most notable of the changes is arguably the forged wheels developed specifically for the 812 in cooperation with Vossen. These can be optioned in three different finishes: standard, polished or brushed. The alloys measure 21x10J at the front and 22×12,5J at the rear. Tyre sizes are 275/30 and 335/25, respectively. To compliment the new alloys Novitec drops the ride height by about 35 mm.
