Kia South Africa started 2022 with a bang, introducing the new Kia Sorento into the local market. The Sorento nameplate is one that local buyers will recognise with previous models having been on sale here.

Spacious

This, fourth generation, of the large SUV is all-new from the ground up. Its outward appearance keeps the familial visage as seen in the Sonet and Seltos. The new car is 10 mm longer and 10 mm wider than that which it replaces. For added cabin room the wheelbase has grown by 35 mm to 2 815 mm. There is room for seven passengers in three rows of seats. Speaking about the cabin. Front occupants are greeted by two digital screens. The 12,3-inch unit ahead of the driver serves as the instrument cluster while a 10,25-inch touchscreen serves as the infotainment interface.

Fully loaded

Kia SA offers the Sorento in three grades: EX+, SX and SXL. There is only one powertrain option. A 2,2-litre turbodiesel, which produces 148 kW/440 N.m is mated with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In EX form buyers can choose between front- and all-wheel-drive. The two higher spec cars are only available in AWD.

As standard all versions of the new Kia Sorento come with, dual-zone climate control, six airbags, auto lights and wipers, auto-folding, heated side mirrors, LED headlamps rear sunshade blinds, electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support, electric tailgate operation and leather trim. And that’s the standard spec across the range. SX and SXL add even more mod-cons.
