During the latter part of 2019 Lamborghini wowed us with a limited edition, hybrid model called the Sian (you can read our original story at this link). This evening the company pulled the wraps off an open-top version called the Lamborghini Sian Roadster. Sian in Bolognese dialect, meaning ‘flash’ or ‘lightening’, denotes the Sian Roadster’s electrification. Only 19 examples of the new model will be built, and all are already spoken for. Hybrid power

When the Sian made its debut it became the brand’s very first hybrid model. The Lamborghini Sian Roadster is then the company’s first hybrid drop-top. Unlike traditional hybrids the Sian twins don’t use batteries to power the electrical drive component. The energy storage technology is a super-capacitor, which was a world first when it debuted in the Sian coupe. This technology was pioneered for automotive use in conjunction with MIT.

Lamborghini’s well-known naturally aspirated V12 is mated with a 48-volt e-motor, that delivers 25 kW of additional power. The electrical drive has been incorporated into the gearbox. Lamborghini says the combined power of the V12 engine and electrical drive is 602 kW at 8 500 r/min. This makes the Sian most powerful Lamborghini roadster ever made. Lamborghini says the Sian Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.9 seconds. And it has a top speed in excess of 350 km/h.
