Lamborghini has been teasing us with info and videos of its upcoming hypercar for many months now. A few weeks ago we brought you the video (bottom of this post) of the track-only machine in action. Today the Italian supercar manufacturer released this teaser image (opening pic) giving us the best indication to date of what the Lamborghini SCV12 car will look like. To date the company has let us hear the engine being dyno tested, and recently we got to see and hear the new creation as the Lamborghini SCV12 hits the track.

What we already know

Lamborghini confirms that the track-only model is being developed by the company’s in-house racing division called Squadra Corse. It will be produced in limited numbers, some speculate as few as 40 units. Squadra Corse has ramped up power from the company’s 6,5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine to deliver in excess of 610 kW. The motor is mated with a six-speed sequential Xtrac transmission.

A steel roll cage will be standard fitment within the carbon-fibre structure. The transmission has a load-bearing function. Pushrod rear suspension is installed directly on the gearbox. The differential is a mechanical self-locking type that allows the driver to adjust its preload for optimum traction depending on the corner and the conditions of the asphalt. Power is delivered to the ground courtesy of slick Pirelli tyres fitted on magnesium rims.

Aero monster

The official images released today show an aggressive aero package. A massive carbon-fibre rear wing dominates the sharp lines of the Lamborghini SCV12. It is balanced out by a front splitter with additional downforce coming from a diffuser below the rear bumper. Lateral flicks and vertical fins on the side sills also direct and channel air. A roof-mounted air-scoop is said to perform a ram-air effect for the V12. Lamborghini says the SCV12 has higher downforce levels than a GT3 racecar.

Euro summer debut

Lamborghini Squadra completed the car’s development program and is now ready for its world première in the next few weeks. The SCV12 will be assembled at the Lamborghini Squadra Corse factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Customers will participate in advanced driving programs at racetracks all over the world. Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Lamborghini Squadra Corse special projects consultant will be one of the tutors… how cool is that?
