The Mille Miglia was a road race held between 1927 and 1957. The event typically started and ended in Rome with the most recent routes passing through Brescia. The route covered approximately 1 600 km hence the name, thousand miles in Italian.

Flat out racing ended in 1957 after two fatal crashes in the same event. Although, there were may fatality in earlier editions. The event was revitalised as a regularity rally in 1977. Only cars that raced in the earlier, competitive events are eligible to enter.

Mercedes-Benz is closely linked to the history of the Mille Miglia. Rudolf Caracciola and Wilhelm Sebastian were the first non-Italian team to win the Mille Miglia in 1931 driving a Mercedes-Benz SSKL. In 1955 Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson set a record that will never be broken. The British duo in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR covered the course distance in ten hours, seven minutes and 48 seconds. That is an average speed of almost 160 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz Classic is offering three drivers the chance to drive the 2024 1000 Miglia in three 300SLs that belong to the German company.
