Creventic 24-hour race coming to Kyalami

Much of the world has been thrown in to disarray with the continued hostilities between the US and Iran. That ongoing conflict has spilled over into the world motorsport arena. One offshoot of the war waged by the US is that a Creventic Winter series endurance race that will take place at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit early next.

Already rescheduled

The international motorsport scene has already experienced changes to its 2026 plans as Formula One had to postpone two races that were scheduled to take place in the Gulf region. One of those races, the Saudi Arabian round, has been cancelled. The other, the Bahrain GP, is now going to take place in Malaysia, at the Sepang circuit, which has hosted many F1 races in years gone by. Click here to read about potential replacement events.

The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) made an early call, getting ahead of any last-minute changes. As a result the final two rounds, originally scheduled to take place in Qatar and Bahrain, will instead be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy.

MotoGP also had to reschedule the Qatar round that was due to take place in April. A new date has been set for early November, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen as planned. The new date will form part of a triple header with the Australian and Malaysian events. It is unlikely that a replacement race will be slotted in should the Qatar event fall away.

Winter series

The Creventic Middle East Trophy takes place as a self-contained championship. The three-event series comprises of the Yas 12 Hours, the 24H Dubai and the 6H Abu Dhabi as the season finale. The calendar was announced in July as a ceasefire was in effect at the time. Things have since changed with the US and Iran regularly exchanging fire in recent days.

Kyalami on the Cards

Series organisers recently sent a letter to all competitors confirming that the 24-hour event will take place in South Africa. Creventic announced that the 2027 Michelin 24H Dubai will be relocated to Kyalami. As a result it has been renamed the 24H Kyalami. The remaining races on the calendar have been postponed until further notice.

In part, the letter said:

“We are excited to announce that the Michelin 24H Kyalami will take place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa from 8-10 January 2027.

“Due to the ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East, and its impact on transport planning and costs, we have decided to adjust our 2026-27 winter calendar. This decision was made after carefully considering all available options together with Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina Circuit.”

Kyalami is no stranger to endurance racing. The Midrand circuit has hosted three rounds of the International GT Challenge series in the form of the Kyalami 9 Hour. The most recent race took place in 2023. In more recent times the track has made headlines for a possible return of Formula One to the African continent.
