Fast Golfs are part and parcel of the SA racing landscape. We all know that adage about there being a faster Mk1 Golf regardless of what you drive. However, we shouldn’t be too surprised that the world’s quickest AWD Golf comes from Germany. A crew known as TTK Turbotechnik Konne has created a truly impressive piece of machinery.

Custom Chassis

Markus and Stefan Welte are the brothers responsible for building this car. The world’s quickest AWD Golf may look like a Mk2, but underneath that bright paintwork is a custom tube frame. You can take a closer look at the underpinnings on the car’s Facebook page.

Volksie Power

The engine, however, was taken from a Golf R32, however, it has been turned through 90 degrees. As a result it now sits longitudinally in the engine compartment. Six cylinders are force fed by an absolutely massive Garrett turbocharger. The turbo, and a few other choice upgrades help the engine pump out 1 000 kW. Other upgrades include aftermarket ‘rods and pistons along with high-flow fuel injectors.

A Liberty five-speed drag race transmission channels power to all four corners. Slicks on both axles are responsible for getting power to the ground.

New Record

The guys from TTK Turbotechnik Konne recently attended a drag race event at Kiskunlachaza. Markus raised (or should that be lowered? – Ed) the bar for drag racing Golfs all over the world. After a few warm-up runs at the event he blitzed the quarter mile in 7,412 seconds with an impressive trap speed of 293,94 km/h. During that run he managed to blast from 100-200 km/h in a ridiculously quick 2,1 sec.
