Online gaming has enjoyed a massive upsurge these last few weeks as much of the world has been confined indoors in a bid to stem the spread of the Coronavirus. We’ve seen virtual F1 races as the Formula One season has been put on hold and now we have our very own Solidarity E-Race. And the best part is that there is proper prize money up for grabs.

Race against the best

The Solidarity e-Race online event (click here to enter) will be hosted on Assetto Corsa Competizione, the official game of the Intercontinental GT Series. Prizes and support come from electronic speciality services Afrihost, Data Sciences, Pure Storage and NEC. The aim of the event is to raise awareness and funds for the South African Solidarity Fund. This fund was created by the national government to support those in need during this trying period. 50 per cent of all entry fees from the online racers will be donated to the Solidarity Fund.

If you are looking for great car content to watch online you may want to check out our three-part series: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of car and motorsport shows and movies.

There will be multiple qualifying races taking place this weekend from which the top 100 fastest drivers will progress to the second round. Round two will consist of four races; each contested by 25 pilots. The winners from each of these races will head into the final. All races will take place on the historic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Online racers will compete against Intercontinental GT ace Kelvin van der Linde, Sauber F1 Development driver Stuart White, multiple SA karting champion Kwanda Mokoena and former VW Polo Cup champion Chris Shorter.
