Porsche has added another derivative to its current 911 line-up referred to as the Touring. The Porsche 911 (992) Carrera T is only the third iteration of this moniker. The ‘T’ was first used in 1968, then again in 2017. Now the same treatment has been applied to the 992 generation of 911. Oh, and the good news is that it is coming to SA. Pared Back

In essence a ‘T’ version is a back-to-basics variant that has been relieved of a few bits and pieces. At the same time there are a few handy additions that add to the driving experience. The most obvious change to the eye is the deletion of the rear seats. The car also rides 10 mm lower than a standard 911. It is fitted as standard with a Sports Chrono pack. It also features 20- and 21-inch alloys, front and rear respectively, in dark grey. Porsche says the model tips the scales at 1 470 kg.

Twin-turbo

The 911 (992) Carrera T features a twin-turbocharged flat six engine that develops 283 kW and 450 N.m of torque. The engine is mated with a seven-speed manual transmission as standard, while an eight-speed automated version is optional. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a mechanical locking differential.

Quoted performance figures are a zero to 100 km/h time of 4,5 seconds. Flat out the T will do 291 km/h. The engine will be howling along suitably loudly thanks to the fitment of a standard sports exhaust.

Interior Changes

The  911 (992) Carrera T has a number of changes on the interior as well. These include a GT sports steering wheel, sports seats with four-way, electric adjustment. There is also lightweight (read: thinner) glass to lower the mass and to allow the engine note to filter into the cabin.

Other changes include a darker colour palette, model-specific logos, gloss black decorative inlays, decorative stitching, 911 logos embossed in the headrests and stripes down the seat centres.
