What goes into Pagani's most obsessive carbon-fibre creation?

This exclusive Huayra 70 Derecho, part of the Grandi Complicazioni series, embodies Horacio Pagani's vision for a car as powerful and precise as a derecho storm.

New

It must be good to be the boss of a hypercar company. The Huayra 70 Derecho is one of three special Huayra 70 commissions that were made for Horacio Pagani’s personal milestone. The latest is an exercise in his carbon-fibre obsession and very expensive theatre.

This car falls under the Grandi Complicazioni banner, Pagani’s term for bespoke work unconcerned with mass-market logic. The car will debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. A derecho is a violent, fast-moving storm system that throws straight-line winds across a wide front. Pagani borrowed the image of sudden force and translated it into something calm at a standstill and properly quick once it moves.

When work is guided by curiosity, passion, and a sense of beauty, the desire to constantly improve arises naturally. Our daily commitment is to dedicate the utmost attention to every single detail, striving to approach that essential harmony between form and function, intellect and craftsmanship, just as Leonardo da Vinci taught us. To be able to present the world premiere of the Pagani Huayra 70 Derecho at Goodwood is a privilege for us: an opportunity to share the fruits of this labor with those who share our same profound love for the automobile

A trio

The Huayra 70 Derecho is the second of three Huayra 70 models built to mark Horacio Pagani’s 70th birthday. This is not a one-off birthday cake with carbon garnish. This commission exercise exists because clients want something more personal than a standard hypercar and with guaranteed future value, thanks to its rarity.

Derecho storms are defined by speed, direction, and intensity. Pagani applied that logic to the car’s visual language. Its livery seems to move even when the body is static in the paddock. Pearl Orange covers the main bodywork, while Inky Blue settles lower down and across the interior monocoque. In sunlight, the orange throws warm golden reflections, the kind of detail Pagani clients pay for and the rest of us stare at.

Pagani left sections of the fish-bone carbon-fibre visible, so the structure reads as part of the design rather than something hidden under lacquer. It has colour, but also the discipline to let the material underneath tell the story.

Exotic materials

Pagani’s craftsmanship shows in the exterior trim. Solid-milled aluminium components, finished in glossy titanium anodising are just some of the unique touches. The new Huayra 70 titanium wheels continue the metal-heavy look, tying  the whole car together. Milled aluminium and titanium-finish components are lighter than they look and help preserve the car’s dynamic balance. .

The cabin

Inside, the Huayra 70 Derecho wears ceramic white leather and Tricolore Blue leather that are paired with bespoke contrast stitching, which keeps the cabin from becoming a monochrome showroom piece.

The steering wheel gets a Pearl Orange 12 o’clock stripe. The gear knob carries the same paint treatment, so the colour story does not stop at the door cards. Contrast stitching adds to the bespoke look.

AMG Power

Under the bespoke body lies an AMG-sourced V12 powerplant. Thanks to twin-turbochargers, the engine develops 635 kW and 1 100 N.m of torque. Power is fed to the rear axle through an electromechanical self-locking differential. The best part, the transmission is a seven-speed manual – NICE!
