Growing Up

The new Subaru WRX has several new design cues. Among these are LED headlamps, hexagonal grille as well as the signature bonnet scoop. Overall dimensions have increased compared to its predecessor. The newer car is 75 mm longer and 30 mm wider than before. As a result occupants enjoy more cabin room.

New Look Interior

The new exterior looks are accompanied by a radically different interior treatment. There is a new 11,6-inch infotainment screen that takes pride of place on the facia. The high-resolution touchscreen is mounted in a portrait orientation. Thankfully Subaru has seen fit to retain physical buttons for volume and temp controls.

The infotainment system features Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, it has satellite navigation as standard fitment – nice! The new WRX range also has a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Familiar Sound

Under the bonnet of the new Subaru WRX is a familiar boxer engine configuration. The new engine displaces 2,4 litres. With the help of a turbocharger it delivers 202 kW and 350 N.m of torque between 2 000 and 5 200 r/min.

The engine is available with one of two transmission options. The default option is a six-speed manual. While an eight-speed CVT dubbed Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) is available for those who prefer not to deal with a clutch pedal.

As always, power is sent to the road through Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive drivetrain. The system is controlled by Subaru’s Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), a suite of safety systems. Along these are active torque vectoring, ABS, EBD and ESC.
