There’s a difference between an update and an evolution, and the new Volkswagen T-Roc makes that difference clear the moment you see it. Making its public debut at the 2026 Festival of Motoring at Kyalami, this is not a facelift, not a mid-cycle refresh, and not a case of new badges on an old body. This is a second-generation T-Roc, and it shows in every detail.
A New Platform, A New Presence
The new T-Roc offers up to 475 litres of boot space with all seats in use, expanding to a spacious 1 350 litres with the rear bench folded and adjusted forward, genuine load-carrying capability in a compact footprint. The exterior design has matured to match, with sharper lines and a bolder front end giving the new T-Roc a far more confident road presence than before.
Power, Refined
Under the bonnet, Volkswagen has kept things familiar where it matters. Every derivative in the range is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, producing 110 kW and 250 N.m of torque, paired with a smooth-shifting 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. The result is brisk, refined performance going from 0–100km/h in 8,4 seconds with a combined fuel consumption of 6,6 L/100km.
Technology That Leads
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard across the entire range via App-Connect Wireless, keeping drivers connected without reaching for a cable. For those who want the full digital experience, the optional ‘Discover’ infotainment package adds a 12.9-inch touchscreen display, Digital Cockpit Pro, satellite navigation, voice control, a Head-up Display, and six speakers and is available across all three derivatives.
Three distinct personalities
The new T-Roc is offered locally in three derivatives, giving buyers different ways to express the same underlying character.
Life – the entry point into the range, equipped with 16-inch & alloy wheels (17-inch ‘Lima’ alloys optional), LED headlamps with separate daytime running lights, black roof rails, and standard Park Assist. A rear-view camera system is available as an option.
R-Line Plus – for those who want more presence to match the performance. This includes ‘Coventry’ alloy wheels, Varenna leather seats, power-adjustable front seats with memory function, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps with cornering light, and Keyless Advanced entry with SAFELOCK. There’s also an optional IQ.DRIVE Assistance Package which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, Area View, and Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring into play, along with an optional panoramic sunroof.
R-Line Black Style – the flagship of the range, building on the R-Line with the ‘Black Style’ package: 19-inch ‘York Aero’ alloy wheels, black roof rails, black decorative trims and black exterior mirror housings, for a bolder, stealthier stance. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps is standard here.
Every new T-Roc comes with a three-year/120 000km warranty, a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty, and a five-year/90 000km service plan with 15 000km service intervals, giving owners long-term peace of mind alongside the new-generation upgrade.
For a market that has long appreciated the T-Roc’s blend of style and practicality, the new generation doesn’t just meet expectations. It resets them.
