Marc Marquez Still Winning, But at a Price

Spaniard Marc Marquez has returned to the top step of the podium, but can he win another title?

Marc Marquez continues to do the seemingly impossible. Despite suffering many injuries, particularly the one at Jerez 2020 on a Honda (requiring no fewer than four surgeries on his arm), his shoulder injury late last season and his broken foot recently sustained at Le Mans, the Spaniard continues to bounce back to win.

Winning Streak

Having won at Balaton, Hungary, a few weeks back (taking both sprint and feature wins), the seven-time MotoGP world champion won the feature race at Brno last weekend on his factory Ducati GP26. He prevented Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) from taking his long-awaited maiden MotoGP victory, keeping the 25-year-old Japanese rider at bay.

Ogura had his best MotoGP outing to date, shattering the track record to take pole position. He had to give best to the works Ducati squad, however, finishing second to Pecco Bagnaia in the sprint race and second to Marquez in the feature race.

Defending Champ

After dominating the 2025 season, Marc Marquez has had a trying 2026. To be fair, the works Ducati squad had a dry period for a number of months and the factory has been working hard to fight back after Aprilia’s strong start to the season. Marquez has since commented that the bike is good, now it is up to the riders. The Brno result appears to justify this claim.

Paying a Price

Marc Marquez has achieved much in his career, but at what cost? The Spaniard’s body is a broken wreck, fused back together. He managed a historic-making moment in 2025, coming back from multiple injuries to win another world championship. It is longest gap between motorcycle world championship titles: six years.

His determination to return from injury yet again this season has resulted in him slashing the gap to the world championship lead just before the summer break. It is clear he is back to full fitness following his victory at such a physical circuit. Can the reigning world champion make it eight titles?
