Last week Audi SA announced that it would be rolling out its latest EV models in SA (original story here). That news was followed by a press release with BMW’s intro date for the iX3, which we covered in an article yesterday. And today we can bring you Mercedes-Benz EV intro dates.

Too coincidental…?

It seems a little coincidental that the big three premium brands have all announced the roll-out of pure battery powered models will take place at virtually the same time. While some have mentioned Q1 of 2022. Mercedes-Benz EV intro dates are set for April of next year.

That leads us to speculate that perhaps there has been rethink from the SA government regarding concessions afforded to pure EVs. At any rate, the top brands have stepped in to add to the list of battery powered models on sale. The current offerings include the BMW i3, Mini SE and Jaguar I-Pace.

Model line-up

Mercedes-Benz EV intro dates are set for April 2022 when the company will release no fewer than four all-new additions to the local line-up. The smallest of these is the EQA (which you can read more on here), next up is the slightly larger SUV-based EQB (more on the model here).

If you require all-wheel-drive then the large EQC SUV is just the ticket. You can read about the model at this link. At the very top of the EQ, Mercedes speak for pure EV, pecking order is the recently launched EQS. It is considered the S-Class of the EV line-up. Read more on the tech-laden model and the various motor/battery options on offer by clicking here. Mercedes-Benz has another EV in the pipeline, called the EQE, which is yet to be released. We’ll bet good money that it will also make its way to SA soon after its stablemates are introduced.
