The famous Martini colours will return to the world of rallying this weekend. Two racecars were unveiled at the opening round of the 2023 FIA World Rallycross championship sporting the familiar livery. Incidentally, the series will return to South Africa with the penultimate round taking place in Cape Town later this year (more info here).

Return Of A Rally Legend

Some time back we brought you an article outlining the return of the Delta Integrale to rallycross (more info here). French rally ace Guerlain Chicherit resurrected the famous shape for his FIA RX campaign. The newer car, as with all others in the field, is battery powered. The standardised powertrain features twin motors that deliver 500 kW and 880 N.m of instant torque to all four wheels.

More Nostalgia

Chicherit’s team GCK has chosen the famous Martini colours as their livery of choice to compete in the 2023 FIA RX series. The second driver for the team is none other than Sebastien Loeb. The nine times an FIA World rally champion is statistically the most successful competitor in top-flight rallying history.

Loeb, of course, has plenty of other racing experience under his belt. He has finished runner-up on the gruelling Dakar Rally on three occasions, reached the overall rostrum in the Le Mans 24 Hours and triumphed four times in the Race of Champions. Last year he was crowned champion in the electric off-road series Extreme E.

Loeb Speaks

“I’m from a generation that was brought up seeing wins by Lancia Deltas in rallying, so naturally I have a weakness for this car,” the 49-year-old acknowledged, “but when Guerlain spoke to me the first time about tackling a rallycross season with it, I thought he was mad!

Loeb continued: “On paper, the Delta Evo-e RX looks pretty good, compact with good weight balance. I’m curious to see where we’ll be this weekend.”
