Ayrton Senna, Gerhard Berger, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris all have one thing in common, they’ve raced for famed F1 outfit McLaren. ‘Company’ cars aren’t usually gifted to employees, so all their race machines have been under lock and key at the company’s HQ in Woking. However, current management feels that this isn’t how old F1 cars should be treated and has placed five cars for sale.

We have decided to part with these iconic McLaren Formula One cars because we feel that having them simply sitting in storage is a disservice to what they represent. These cars were built to be driven and raced, and we want to see them being used and enjoyed. We believe that is the best way to keep our history alive and our heritage business active
– Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO

The cars on sale include:

  • 1991 McLaren MP4/6A
  • 1991 McLaren MP4/6A
  • 2012 McLaren MP4/27A
  • 2021 McLaren MCL35M
  • 2023 McLaren MCL37A

Both 1991 cars were raced by Gerhard Berger as well as tested by Ayrton Senna, team mates in the dominant era for the team, which resulted in multiple titles. The MP4/6A is powered by Honda’s RA121E naturally-aspirated V12 engine. The twins have remained with McLaren since the final time they were raced.

The McLaren MP4/27A was raced by Jenson Button. This naturally-aspirated V8 powered machine claimed seven pole positions and three Grand Prix victories during the 2012 season. The McLaren MCL35M was was raced by Lando Norris during the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship season.

The MCL37A is another Norris-driven machine, raced during the 2023 season. Interestingly, the same car was driven by current McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, Pato O’Ward, Mick Schumacher, Valtteri Bottas, Martin Brundle, and Brad Pitt. Pitt piloted the car at a private McLaren test at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The MCL37A is also the most modern Formula 1 Grand Prix car ever offered for private ownership. All cars offered for sale will be prepared by McLaren for their new owners.
