It seems that the Italians are already preparing for summer. A few days ago the Huracan Evo Spyder (click here to read more) was launched and now it’s the turn of the limited-edition Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster. Just 800 units of the latter will be produced.

Open season

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster is based on coupe with the near identical name. These models sit at the very top of the Lamborghini supercar food chain. They are the most extreme, high-performance road cars made by the brand.

The roadster roof is constructed from carbon fibre. It is removable via quick-release levers in the cabin, and stores under the front hood. Each segment weighs less than 6 kg.

The SVJ Roadster has a V12-engine that produces 566 kW at 8 500 r/min with 720 N.m of peak torque at 6 750. Power is delivered to all four wheels. The SVJ accelerates from standing to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8,8.  Top speed is said to be in excess of 350 km/h.

High-tech

The topless version of the SVJ has all the high-tech systems as the fixed-roof sibling. Lamborghini’s patented ALA active aero system actively varies load to achieve high downforce or low drag, depending on dynamic conditions using electronically-actuated motors positioned in the front splitter and the rear wing.

Large side air intakes and front side fins increase airflow, aid cooling to the V12 engine and reduce drag. Airflow over the roof is uninterrupted whether roof is on or off, and the overall result is an improvement by 40 per cent of the total downforce compared to the Aventador SV Roadster version.

The Aventador SVJ Roadster features rear-wheel steering that works in conjunction with the four-wheel drive system adaptive suspension and ESC to ensure the optimum handling and driver experience in all grip conditions.

In his own words

“The Aventador SVJ Roadster inherits all the power, performance and groundbreaking aerodynamic technologies of the coupé, but with its own iconic presence and prowess,” says chairman and chief executive officer of Automobili Lamborghini, Stefano Domenicali. “It is as fundamentally exciting to drive as the Aventador SVJ but with an added exclusivity: the option of the open air. With the same extraordinary performance roof on or off, the Aventador SVJ Roadster incorporates the dynamism of the coupé with the unique spirit of a Lamborghini roadster.”
