Jaguar Type 01

Remember that contentious Jaguar rebrand campaign? The one that was mocked by folks across the world? Well, that campaign signaled the rebirth of the English automaker for a new era. The very first product of the reborn marque has been revealed in production form. Say hello to the Jaguar Type 01.

Unsurprising

The production version of the Jaguar Type 01 should come as no surprise to anyone as the company has been on a years’ long teaser campaign, showing us various prototypes as well as the full-fledged interior some time ago.

Type 01, a complete departure in the former alphabet named cars (E-Type, F-Type, E-Pace, etc), has the same monolithic form that the concept promised. It has a long bonnet, cab-back greenhouse and massive wheelbase. The design team has retained the bluff facia, tail and slabby sides. Interestingly, there is no conventional rear windscreen.

The company’s press material says the Type o1 is the best of Jaguar’s past, distilled into a luxury electric GT of the future. Despite the blocky shape, the Type 01 is claimed to be most aerodynamic Jaguar ever with a drag coefficient figure of 0,23.

Minimalist cabin

The cabin treatment is about as bare as you can get in a luxury car. A central spine that runs the length of the cabin is one of the defining features. This divider creates four individual spaces ie one for each occupant. Ahead of the driver sits an interactive driver. There is a secondary seven‑inch touchscreen display between the driver and front passenger. The audio system uses a ‘panoramic soundbar’ that also boasts with ‘sensory audio’ seats., sorta like a 4DX cinema.

E-Power

Type 01 is powered by three electric motors for a total of 758 kW and 1 365 N.m of torque. The system features torque vectoring to help dole out such massive outputs. Jaguar says the large saloon can blast from 0‑100 km/h in 3,2 seconds. and from 100 to 180 km/h in 4,0 seconds.

The powertrain is fed by a 118 kWh battery that is said to give the large saloon a range of between 650 and 720 km, depending on the test applied. The car’s power systems were tuned with input from the double world championship‑winning Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team.
