An innovative new racecar made its dynamic debut in Berlin this last Saturday: the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy.

Monotype with a difference

The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy will be the official curtain-raiser for the FIA Formula E Championship in 2018/19. This will be the world’s first all-electric, production-based race series.

Up to 20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy racecars will line up on the grid in cities such as Hong Kong, Rome, Paris and New York for a 10 round global series.

The all-electric racer will be powered by a 325 kW motor. Performance stats quoted by Jaguar include a 0-100 km/h time of 4,2 seconds and a top speed of 195 km/h.

A race weekend will include free practice and qualifying sessions followed by a 25 minute plus one lap race. All of the vehicles will be designed, engineered and built by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO).

Arrive and drive

The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy series offers an Arrive and Drive package for the drivers and teams.

As part of the package drivers/entrants will receive global logistics for vehicles, spare parts and equipment, all tyres and consumables, championship promotion and marketing by Jaguar Racing and FIA Formula E, allocated hospitality for entrants and guests, racewear for each driver and dedicated television coverage.

That’s quite a deal. Hmmmm… perhaps we should put in a call to the Double Apex marketing boss…, though there’s no word yet on cost to buy in to the series.

Official word

Gerd Mäuser, Chairman of Jaguar Racing said at the recent FIA Formula E race: “Today is an exciting day for the future of Jaguar Racing as we showcase all of the hard work our Special Vehicle Operations team have done to get us to this moment in their development of this exciting new support series.”

“As a business we are committed to electrification and the future of battery electric vehicles. We have already transferred key learnings from our involvement in Formula E into the development of our future road cars, and no doubt that the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy will only further enhance this learning and development.”
