The 24 Hours of Daytona took place this weekend. The race heralded the start of a new era of endurance racing. The field included entries by Porsche and BMW, however the top class was won by Acura (read: Honda). The big news will probably be this insanely close LMP2 finish.

Different Strokes

There are multiple categories racing at the same event at the same time. The top-flight GTD, LMP2, LMP3 and two versions of the production-based GTD racers: Pro and Am. The LMP2 class is usually quite closely fought. This proved to be the case at the Daytona 24.

Proton Competition stole the LMP2 win with a sensational finish. James Allen’s No55 Oreca-Gibson beat the No04 Crowdstrike Racing machine of Ben Hanley by the slimmest of margins. The Hanley/George Kurtz/Matt McMurry/Esteban Gutierrez machine was in the lead going into the final lap. But Allen had other ideas, as you can see in the video below.
