Porsche pulled the wraps of the entire Taycan Cross Turismo range today. Adding this new bodystyle essentially doubles the model line-up of the Taycan family. Good news for local fans is that the range will be introduced into the South African market in the third quarter of 2021. We already have pricing (see below) for the range that will be introduced later this year.

In 2018 the German automaker presented the Mission E Cross Turismo concept at the Geneva International Motor Show. Many assumed that Porsche’s first all-electric production model would take on this more ‘rugged’ appearance. As it turned out the brand preferred to introduce the sleek four-coupe instead, saving the Cross Turismo for later.

More practicality

The Taycan Cross Turismo range offers the same performance and range credentials as the Taycan, but with added practicality and user-friendliness. An additional 36 mm of headroom for rear-seat passengers is made possible by a longer roofline. This extension gives the Cross Turismo a shooting brake appearance in profile. Maximum luggage compartment capacity of more than 1 200 litres makes it suitable for family usage and weekend get aways.

Added to the larger cabin the Taycan Cross Turismo range also offers full-time all-wheel-drive as well as adjustable air suspension, both of which give this version of the Taycan the ability to venture off the beaten path. Off-road credentials

All versions of the Taycan Cross Turismo come with the additional gravel mode driving program. This allows owners to tackle light off-road terrain such as gravel tracks or muddy road surfaces. When selected, the ride height raises by 30 mm. Gravel mode also tailors the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) systems, as well as the rear-axle transmission to ensure maximum traction.

Standard specification

The Taycan Cross Turismo range comes with a high level of standard specification. Items on the list include LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, a multifunction sports steering wheel, partial leather interior and eight-way electrically adjustable comfort seats, the standard equipment on the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo and Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is already extensive. For the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, 14-way electrically adjustable comfort seats come as standard. The features of the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo include 18-way electrically adjustable adaptive sports seats, a leather-free two-tone interior and rear-axle steering, the Sport Chrono package and Porsche Electric Sport Sound.

Interior treatment

Cross Turismo versions will share the facia treatment as seen in the Taycan sports saloon. Wing-shaped upper and lower sections of the dashboard stretch across the entire width of the cabin. A free-standing, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. A central 10,9-inch infotainment display sits behind an integrated glass band in a black-panel look. The system features a digital radio (for some markets) as well as a full suite of connectivity.
