Whether you are a fan or not, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class bakkie has certainly attracted plenty of attention since its launch last year. The Carlex Design 6×6 Mercedes-Benz X-Class is set to ratchet that up to another degree.

Bespoke trucks

Carlex design has been modding and customising pick-ups, or bakkies as we like to call them in South Africa, to give owners unique vehicles. The firm offers customisation options for all the major bakkies we are familiar with in SA including the VW Amarok, Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux. Now the firm sets off on its most ambitious project to date, to build a Carlex Design 6×6 Mercedes-Benz X-Class.

Check out this Brabus X-Class.

The six-wheeled truck with an extended bed and flared fenders called the X-Class Exy 6×6 Concept. Carlex fits a revised facia with larger air intakes in the bumper and a winch taking centre stage. A new bonnet gains an air scoop. The fender flares feature exposed rivets similar in appearance to those seen on racecars. A wide LED light bar sits on the roof. Massive off-road wheel and tyres finish off the exterior appearance.

Unique prospect

It seems that this will be the world’s first 6-wheel drive X-Class bakkie. Carlex is extending the bin and adding mounts for an extra axle. The company isn’t being too open with technical details. We suspect that the large Exy will use the top-of-the-range V6 motor, but with several upgrades to bump up the power and torque outputs.

Of course, this isn’t the only 6×6 Mercedes pick-up in existence. You may be aware of the massive 6×6 AMG G63 G-Class pick-up that was created a few years ago. See below for the official video:
