BMW seems to have a leak in its system. Just days before the 2 Series hatchback was launched images were leaked onto the internet. We brought you those images before they were released by BMW. BMW has been teasing us with images of its latest model for weeks now, and finally the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe official images have leaked onto the internet just hours ahead of its unveiling.

Sleek looks

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is the latest addition to BMW’s portfolio. It is a small, saloon-esque model created to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 sedan. The lines of this four-door coupe are quite sleek. The face is unmistakably BMW and there is a bowed roofline that terminates with a flicked up rear spoiler.

Pictured here is a range-topping M235i xDrive, which has large alloys and a model-specific front bumper. Versions lower down the food chain will have smaller wheels and a slightly different appearance. Thankfully the smallest member of the BMW Gran Coupe family has an appearance that is very different from its larger stablemates.

Front- and all-wheel-drive

The newcomer will be based on the same front-wheel-drive platform of the 1 Series hatchback. However, the M235i version (as pictured) will have an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. The M235i will be accompanied by several other petrol and diesel derivatives. Expect three- and four-cylinder engines badged 218i, 220i and 225i. Among the diesel-powered cars will be a 218d, 220d and 225d.

Expect the engines to be offered with a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It’s early days for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe but already there is speculation that the range-topper will eventually be an M2 Gran Coupe.
