 Force-fed V8s

Representing England is the Jaguar Project 8. This very special model was created as a track weapon. Only 300 units were hand-built by Jaguar’s in-house Special Vehicles Operation (SVO), all of them in left-hand drive. Jaguar XE SV Project 8 packs a 5,0-litre supercharged V8 that develops 441 kW and 700 N.m of torque. Power is fed to an all-wheel drive system that features a rear electronic active differential. Jaguar claims a top speed of 322 km/h (200 mph) and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3,7 seconds. Handling was the Project 8’s main focus and as a result it turned a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7 min 21,23 sec.

Lining up alongside, and representing Germany, is the more mainstream Mercedes-AMG E63S estate. Click here to check out the facelifted E63S sedan. The big Merc from Affalterbach has a 4,0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that cranks out 450 kW and 850 N.m of twist effort. Drive is sent to all four wheels, as well, through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes, while heavier, has the advantage of a pre-programmed launch control function, which the Project 8 does not have. Watch the E63S take on its natural rival the BMW M5 in this video.
