If it’s Saturday, that means it’s time for another entertaining drag race from the UK automotive site Car Wow. This week they have arranged an AWD coupe drag race, with three seemingly unevenly matched cars. You can watch loads more drag race videos by clicking this link.

Similar but different

The three rivals in this week’s AWD coupe drag race are a brand-new BMW M8 Competition (which you can read all about here), an older generation Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and a second-hand, but tuned Nissan GT-R. All the cars have two doors and offer a 2+2 seating configuration, so they are similar in those aspects.

The BMW M8 Competition is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that transmits its power via an automatic transmission. Power is rated as 460 kW along with 750 N.m of torque. Flying the flag for Japan is the heavy-hitting Nissan GT-R. This tuned example has 464 kW/780 N.m from its 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Representing the naturally aspirated brigade is Ferrari’s GTC4 Lusso that boasts a massive 6,3-litre V12 motor rated at 507 kW, developed at a dizzying 8 000 r/min, and 697 N.m of torque. Its motor breathes through a Novitec exhaust system. All the cars feature all-wheel-drive and have automated transmissions.

Straight-line battle

Car Wow presenter Mat Watson (in the BMW) races the GT-R and Lusso in three straight line challenges. First up is a standing start quarter-mile race. Next is a rolling race from 80 km/h and the final task is a braking test to see which car stops the quickest.
