The aero grip

Audi bills this as the “most capable and focused R8 to date” as the Audi Sport Performance Parts R8 is a pared back, no compromise driving machine kitted out with the best parts available from Audi.

Motorsport-proven enhancements include an aero kit developed in the wind tunnel and made exclusively from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic. The most notable of the aero addenda are the large fixed rear wing (with kinky, racecar-style gooseneck mounting) aerodynamic elements located behind the rear wheels and a pronounced diffuser in the lower section of the rear bumper. The front bumper incorporates larger air inlets, a deep splitter and sculpted canards.

The sum total of all this aero trickery is total downforce of 250 kg of downforce at 328 km/h, an increase of 100 kg over the standard R8 V10 plus. The effect isn’t only felt at top speed. At 150 km/h aero kit doubles downforce to 52 kg.

More mechanical grip

New multi-spoke black 20-inch wheels save up to 8 kg in unsprung mass. Unsprung mass is further reduced by ceramic brake discs and titanium backing plates. Uprated brake pads increase stopping power and improve fade resistance. Grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres measure 245/30 up front and 305/30 at the rear. A three-way coilover suspension setup is also fitted for full adjustability on road and track.

Power Unaltered

The most extreme Audi R8 still has the Lamborghini-sourced 5,2-litre V10 motor that develops 449 kW and 560 N.m of torque. Power is transmitted by a dual-clutch transmission. While power remains unchanged the motor is equipped with a sports exhaust as standard.

One colour only

A raft of changes takes place in the cabin of the Audi Sport Performance Parts R8. Bucket seats covered in perforated Fine Nappa leather are complemented by an Alcantara-covered sports steering wheel. Audi’s virtual cockpit cluster features full connectivity. All 44 cars will be finished exclusively in this shade of red (pictured).
