A few weeks ago we were teased with a single dark image of the Audi PB18 e-tron concept. Audi said at the time that the car will make its debut at the upcoming Pebble Beach car week, and now it has.

A stunner

The Audi PB18 e-tron concept is quite a departure from Audi’s current design language. The spectacular concept has unique design elements like the side windows that angle inwards and the extremely extended wheel arches.

Audi says that the PB18 e-tron has been designed as a radical driving machine for the racetrack and road. When driven alone, the monocoque can be positioned in the centre of the cockpit to create a single-seater racecar experience.

A mix of aluminium, carbon-fibre and multi-material composites ensures the body of the Audi PB18 e-tron has a low basic mass. Audi claims a total mass of 1 550 kg.

All-electric power

The Audi PB18 e-tron concept uses three powerful electric motors – one up front and two in the rear. These deliver power of up to 150 kW to the front axle and 350 kW to the rear making the PB18 quattro. Maximum output is rated as 500 kW. Combined torque of up to 830 N.m allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 2 seconds.

The liquid-cooled solid-state battery has an energy capacity of 95 kWh. A full charge provides for a range of over 500 kilometres. The Audi PB18 e-tron can be fully recharged in about 15 minutes.

Racecar tech

Fully independent suspension boasts a push-rod system on the front axle and pull-rod system on the rear – in both cases with adaptive magnetic ride shock absorbers. Audi drew heavily from its Le Man LMP1 cars for inspiration in this regard.

The wheels measure 22 inches in diameter and are fitted with 275/35 rubber in front and 315/30 in the back. Large carbon brake discs with a 19-inch diameter, in conjunction with the electric brake, safely and steadily decelerate the Audi PB18 e-tron even in tough racetrack conditions.

Do not expect to see something this outrageous at your local Audi dealer any time soon.
