It is unlikely that you’ve heard of the ATS GT supercar before. In fact, we had no idea what it was until fairly recently. What you are looking at is the newest member of the supercar club.

Exclusive club

The ATS GT (Automobili Turismo e Sport) is a supercar that will be produced in very limited numbers. Just 12 examples will be produced (more on why later), and each will be highly customised to suit its owner’s tastes.

ATS Automobili is no newcomer to the auto game. The company was formed when internal strife at Ferrari forced out a set of designers and engineers. The disgruntled employees formed ATS Automobili. ATS went on to build the GTS (red car pictured above), which was technologically advanced, but a commercial failure. Only 12 were produced between 1963 and 1965.

High-tech

The new ATS GT is high-tech machine. It is based on a McLaren-sourced platform. ATS GT also uses the British firm’s 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8.

In ‘base’ spec the engine will produce 537 kW. That figure can be bumped up to 610 kW if owners wish to do so. Power is delivered to the rear axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. ATS claim the GT can sprint from zero-to-100 km/h in 3,0 seconds and it will exceed 330 km/h flat out. Thanks to the carbon-fibre monocoque the ATS GT weighs just 1 300 kg. Stopping power is provided by Brembo composite rotors.

Drivers will have three driving modes to choose from. Viaggio is for standard road use, Sport is for more spirited driving and Corsa is ideal for track use. In the latter mode, the engine and suspension set up is at its most aggressive with even more noise produced by the F1-style exhaust system. Speaking of F1, the instrument screen shows Formula One-style data in Corsa mode – cool.
