Italian brake specialist Brembo introduced a new brake caliper design for high-performance road cars at the recent New York International Auto Show.

The new design features cavities surrounding the caliper pistons, shorn of all excess material. The result is a caliper with the same stiffness, but a weight reduction of up to 8 percent, compared to a typical caliper used on road supercars.

8 percent translates to 400 grams per corner allowing for a proportional decrease in unsprung mass. Reducing mass in this area results in an improvement in the performance and behavior of the car, as well as a reduction in fuel consumption.

Brembo drew on extensive experience working in the motorsport industry to create this newest offering.

This new design was first seen as standard fitment on the Pagani Huayra BC. It is available in a variety of colours for all sports and supercars and can be used in conjunction with carbon ceramic discs.
