The name Volvo is Latin for “I roll”, quite fitting because Volvo is most definitely on a roll of late. A few weeks ago the local subsidiary launched the all-new XC40 into the local market and now it follows with the Volvo XC60.

Big shoes

The newcomer has big shoes to fill as its predecessor sold over a million units worldwide over a nine year period. The XC60 today represents around 30 percent of Volvo’s total global sales, and is also Volvo’s best-selling vehicle in South Africa.

Award-winning

The company’s new mid-size SUV has already garnered much praise, winning the coveted 2018 World Car of the Year, which is a great start.

The all-new XC60 is the fourth model based on Volvo’s self-developed Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), similar to that used for its larger “90” series siblings.

New comfort and safety technology

Customers can choose from three trim levels: elegant Momentum, R-Design and the top-of-the-range Inscription. Despite small variations in each level, XC60 models come kitted with a high level of specification as standard.

Volvo claims that the all-new XC60 is one of the safest cars ever made. When tested by Euro NCAP in 2017 it received the highest score of all new vehicles tested.

Among the safety systems, on top of the usual airbags, ABS and electronic stability control are Volvo’s City Safety Autonomous Emergency Braking , Oncoming Lane Mitigation with Steer Assist and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist functionality.

Pilot Assist, Volvo’s semi-autonomous driver assistance system that takes care of steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h, is available as an option.

Four engine choices

Local buyers can choose between two diesel engines (D4 and D5) and two petrol (T5 and T6) engines in the new XC60. The only transmission option is an eight-speed automatic an all models feature all-wheel drive as standard.

Pricing

The all-new Volvo XC is priced between R666 024 and R782 036. Prices include a five-year/100 000 km warranty and maintenance plan as well as five years’ worth of roadside assistance.
