Earlier today we brought you an article relating to a Lamborghini off-roader called the Sterrato (link here). It is the second sportscar that has an off-road bias after the Porsche 911 Dakar. But what if you have champagne tastes with a beer budget? Then this safari Mazda MX-5 could be just the thing.

On Sale Now

The safari Mazda MX-5 is currently listed on US auction website Bring A Trailer. You can find the listing by clicking here. As you can see this isn’t your regular Miata. The red NA-generation model features a Paco Motorsports lift kit and 14-inch rims wrapped in chunky all-terrain tyres.

Other exterior features include a front bull bar, aftermarket LED pop-up headlights, roof-mounted auxiliary lights, painted mirror caps, a rear spoiler, and a CB radio antenna. The interior seems pretty standard save for the three-spoke steering wheel and gear shifter.

More Power

A Ford V8 powers the 1992 safari Mazda MX-5. The 5,0-litre engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a Ford rear differential. There’s no word on how much power this engine delivers but it’s undoubtedly a heck of a lot more than when the Miata left Hiroshima.

Judging by the video below the car seems to be in good nick, which makes us wonder if its ever been off road. Either way, it’ll be pretty funny to pitch up at your local off-road course with this ‘sportscar’ to attempt the various obstacles. What car would you apply this treatment if someone gave you the option to do so?
