As popular as the Mazda MX-5/Miata is worldwide, there are many who feel the little roadster can do with more power. Over the last 30 years there have many, many engine upgrades and swaps to give the rear-wheel-drive sportscar a bit more oomph, but few as crazy as this.

Dodge engine

An American (where else) fan has undertaken on the massive task of dropping in a V8 motor from a Dodge Hellcat into a second generation (NB) MX-5. A V8 MX-5 is not an uncommon build, but this engine is also supercharged from the factory. In standard form, the engine is good for almost 530 kW, nearly six times the power output of the original engine. Peak torque is rated as 890 N.m, which means the Hellcat transmission also has to be bolted into the V8 MX-5.

The chaps building the car have been documenting the build on their YouTube channel. We’ve posted the most recent video below and you can access previous episodes by clicking here.
