It’s not often that you see Peugeot products on Double Apex. The brand that was once dominant in the world of motorsport, which built exciting hot hatches and cars with unparalleled reliability, lost its way over the past few decades. Now, the Lion of the auto industry is trying to return to prominence with the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered concept.

A new line

The Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in a few days. It is the first in a new product line of performance models that embraces the benefits of electric power to produce exciting driving machines.

Hybrid power

The aggressive-looking show car will boast electric and ICE power as sources of motivation. Three power sources are used, a 147 kW petrol-fed engine powering each axle as well as an 80 kW electric engine on the front wheels. Total system power is rated at over 300 kW with 500 N.m of torque.

According to the press release, the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered concept can sprint to 100 km/h in 4,3 seconds and can complete the quarter mile in 12,5. Max speed is rated as 250 km/h. The most impressive figure is a CO2 figure of just 49 g/km. It can travel in electric-only mode for up to 50 km.

Performance parts

To keep the performance in check the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered has massive, 380 mm ventilated front disks fitted on the front wheels. These are clamped by four sliding pistons mounted on a fixed caliper.

Front and rear tracks have been widened by 24 mm and 12 mm respectively. Michelin high-performance tyres were wrapped around the 20-inch alloys. The grippy Pilot Sport 4S footwear measures 245/35 R20. The rims were designed to allow for improved brake cooling.
