Every Saturday UK automotive website Car Wow premieres a new drag race video. This week is no different and they have arranged a goodie. They have brought together a few modern natural rivals as well as a few past masters for a V8 drag race.

Strictly speaking

The three modern cars that are natural rivals are the Lexus RC-F Track Edition, BMW M4, and Mercedes-AMG C63S. Yes, we know that the BMW has an inline-six, but thanks to twin-turbochargers it punches above its weight delivering 331 kW/550 N.m. Its countryman, the C63S is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 that cranks out 375 kW/700 N.m. The only naturally aspirated modern rival is the Lexus that has a 5,0-litre V8 which develops 352 kW/535 N.m. All the cars are rear-wheel-driven and have automatic transmissions.

Old school

In an interesting twist, Car Wow has also added older versions of the Germans into the mix: a previous generation (W204) C63 and an E90 BMW M3. The Merc C63 has a large capacity, 6,3-litre V8 that punches out 336 kW and 600 N.m while the BMW has a 4,0-litre, high-revving V8 that developed 309 kW/400 N.m when new. Both the older gen cars are naturally aspirated as well. Adding these two cars makes for a great comparison to watch the pace of progress… or not.

Straight-line battle

Car Wow races the five cars from a standing start… with interesting results. Then from a rolling start at 80 km/h, and finally they do a full brake test to see which car performs the best. Before pressing play on the video, take a guess at the finishing order in the standing start V8 drag race and post your answer to our Facebook page.
