It seems there is no shortage of hypercars and limited-editions being launched these days. A fair number of the newcomers are from the USA, Czinger, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, SSC and Hyperion are just a few examples. This week the Hennessey Venom F5 debuted. The Venom F5 is the latest creation by US firm Hennessey. The company has confirmed that it will build just 24 units.

Twin-turbo V8

The company says that the Hennessey Venom F5 will top 500 km/h and it will have the new car’s top speed verified in 2021. Venom F5 hasn’t just been built to grab the top speed headlines either. Sprint times are quoted as zero to 100 km/h in under three seconds, 0-200 km/h in 4,7 seconds, 0-300 km/h in 8,4 and 0-400 km/h in 15,5 seconds. The F5 is said to weigh 1 360 kg thanks to a bespoke carbon-fibre monocoque and body panels.

Those acceleration figures are possible thanks to a 6,6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 1 335 kW along with 1 617 N.m of torque. Each engine is hand-built with components crafted from high-grade metals including aluminium, titanium and Inconel. These include the crankshaft, pistons, valves and connecting rods. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox to 345/50 Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 rubber wrapped in 20-inch wheels. The 19-inch front alloys are shod with 265/35 tyres.

The F5 uses carbon ceramic brakes, forged aluminium wheels and lightweight Penske dampers to keep unsprung mass low. The centre of gravity is helped by a dry sump that allow the motor to be set deep within the car’s sub-structure. Hennessey will offer five drive modes on the F5 – Sport, Track, Drag, Wet, and F5. The last setting is the only one capable of accessing the car’s maximum power. Each setting alters the car’s power delivery, braking, and traction.

In his own words

Company founder John Hennessey said “This car goes against the grain of modern hypercars, many of which have become soft and docile. The F5 resets the balance, having been designed from the ground up to be the antithesis of the ‘everyday hypercar’ – it will always be an occasion to drive.

“Our team built the Venom F5’s ‘Fury’ V8 motor with one vision – to deliver a unique and unparalleled driving experience. The engine commands complete respect. It’s intimidating – in a good way. It totally dominates the driving experience and keeps goading you to unleash its power, challenging you tame it.”
