There were two crazy touring car crashes this weekend in different series taking place on Sunday. It is a testament to modern racecar preparation and safety systems that these accidents can take place and drivers are left without so much as a scratch on them.

WTCR Crash

The first incident took place in the WTCR event held at the SlovakiaRing. JK Vernay and Nestor Girolami had a coming together in race two of the weekend’s event. The contact sent the latter clattering into the barriers. The Honda Civic had a 27G impact before coming to a rest. Argentine Girolami walked away from the incident but was held for observation.

“First of all, I am okay, which is the most important thing in any incident like this,” said multiple WTCR race winner and title contender Girolami. “It was a really big impact and obviously the car was heavily damaged, so the fact that I was able to return to the circuit this evening is testament to the safety level JAS Motorsport has achieved with the Honda Civic Type R TCR and also the preparation from All-Inkl.COM Münnich Motorsport, so big thanks to them both.”

BTCC Crash

The second incident took place at the Croft round of the BTCC. Bobby Thompson made a spectacular exit from the second race of the day. Thompson’s Audi S3 slid off the track at high-speed, dug into the muddy outfield and was sent into multiple barrel-rolls. The Audi eventually came to rest on its side. The accident was enough to make one dizzy just watching it so the driver must have felt as though he was in a washing machine.
