Suzuki Auto South Africa had a stellar 2020. The local subsidiary racked up more sales on the local front than ever before. A record 16 527 new Suzuki cars were sold during the 2020 calendar year. The company will be looking to build on that success with the addition of a new crossover called Suzuki Vitara Brezza that was launched earlier today.

Keeping it simple

Part of Suzuki Auto SA’s success in 2020, when it sold an additional 1 046 units versus 2019, is a simple range that boasts competitive pricing. Another factor is the large number of SUV/crossover models on offer. This particular segment has been the fastest growing in SA (and in most parts of the world) and Suzuki’s range plays straight into this trend.

A new addition

The Suzuki Vitara Brezza is an all-new model for the local line-up. Confusing naming aside, the Brezza version is an addition to the current portfolio. The current Vitara still maintains its position at the top of the family hierarchy. Brezza slots in below the Vitara as a slightly more compact option, which is under four metres in length. It still offers a generous wheelbase of 2 500 mm and 198 mm of ground clearance.

One engine two transmission options

The Suzuki Vitara Brezza range will be offered with a single engine option locally. The 1,5-litre naturally aspirated motor produces 77 kW and 138 N.m of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed manual- or four-speed automatic transmission. There are no all-wheel-drive, turbocharged or diesel versions on the cards for SA.

Two trim levels

The newcomer will be offered in GL and GLX specification locally. Both versions are fitted with 16-inch wheels. The GL is fitted with steel rims covered by wheel caps and the GLX is fitted with polished alloy wheels as standard. Buyers will be able to choose between the Vitara Brezza 1,5 GL or the Vitara Brezza 1,5 GLX with the choice of manual or automatic.

Interior treatment

All models in the new range are fitted with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment interface. The system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and serves as the display for a rear-facing camera. Bluetooth, auxiliary input and a USB port are also standard. The infotainment system can also be controlled by steering wheel buttons or voice commands.

Other standard features include automatic climate control, electric windows, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear parking sensors, remote central locking and a rear armrest with integrated cup holders.

To this GLX model add leather leather covering for the steering wheel, additional buttons for the cruise control system, adjustable mood lighting, keyless button start air-conditioned upper gloveboxes, height adjustable front seatbelts, an auto-dimming rear mirror, auto-folding side mirrors, automatic rain-sensing wipers, a 12V port in the luggage area and additional tweeters for audio system.

Safety items

All Suzuki Vitara Brezza models are fitted with anti-lock brakes with emergency brake-force distribution and brake-assistance, dual front airbags, pre-tensioners and force limiters on all seatbelts as well as Isofix mountings for child seats.
