Audi driver Rene Rast was involved in a spectacular crash at the Lausiztring yesterday during a German touring car race.

Spectacular incident

The reigning DTM champ was clipped by his team-mate Loic Duval. The touch sent Rast to the outfield where his wheels dug into the soft sand and sent the car cart-wheeling into the air.

Several body panels were ripped from the monocoque, including the windscreen and roof, leaving the driver covered in dust.

Not injured

Afterwards the 32 year old said:  “I’m very good actually, I didn’t feel anything from the crash. It was a very soft landing, just my right elbow hurts a little bit.”

Audi Motorsport head Dieter Gass was thankful:  “The race result is secondary for us today. The main thing is that nothing happened to our driver. It was proved once again just how high the safety level is in the DTM and how safe the Audi RS 5 DTM is.
