For a few people a sportscar is not enough. Those with reeaallllyy deep pockets prefer to own/drive something that isn’t ‘on the menu’. That’s why the field of coachbuilding was started, to create special edition cars based on production models. The Ferrari KC23 is the latest from the folks at the Ferrari’s Special Projects programme.

Close and Personal

It’s not enough to be extremely wealthy to commission something like this. A pre-existing relationship with the factory is prerequisite. The Ferrari KC23 was commissioned by one of the Prancing Horse’s leading collectors. The initials ‘KC’ are probably a give away, but we have no idea who it could be.

Racecar Underneath

The Ferrari KC23 is based on the 488 GT3 Evo. As such it inherits the racecar’s underpinnings, including suspension and engine. Ferrari reckon the 488 GT3 is the most successful racing Ferrari in history. It has racked up over 530 victories and won more than 119 championships worldwide.

This car is a track-only machine but doesn’t conform to any race series. As a result the KC23 has technology that isn’t allowed in motorsport, such as air intakes, which open automatically, and panels behind the front wheel, which boosts front downforce to balance the car aerodynamically.

V8 TT

We know that the car is powered by the same 3,9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the racecar. However it is unlikely to have any restrictors on the inlet system as per the GT3 machine. We expect power to be well in excess of the 492 kW/760 N.m that a road-going 488 GTB produces.
