Italy has become something of a hub for the restomod industry. Boutique companies all over Italia are working their magic on classics to make them more user-friendly for the modern age. The Officine Fioravanti F40 Alte Prestazioni is the latest to receive this treatment.

Latest Creation
The Officine Fioravanti F40 Alte Prestazioni is the latest creation from this Turin-based company. Earlier project include converting an Alfa Romeo 8C from automatic to manual. Even more recently the firm applied the restomod treatment to a Ferrari Testarossa. Link to original article here. The term alte prestazioni translates directly as ‘high performance’, although not many people would claim that an F40 isn’t a high-performance car.

Making it Better…?
The list of upgrades includes Öhlins TTX dampers with four-way adjustment. Furthermore the suspension includes new adjustable arms, bearings, and hub carriers. The braking system has also been upgraded with new carbon-ceramic discs and Brembo calipers. The calipers boast six pistons at the front and four at the rear. There is also a modern-day ABS system at work.
Look closely and you will notice that the alloys are larger than standard. Officine Fioravanti has the rims remade in 18-inch items up front and 19-inch jobbies at the rear. Standard F40 alloys are 17-inch in diameter However, the original, split wheel five-spoke design has been retained. Adopting larger wheels opens up the scope for high-performance rubber such as Michelin Cup 2 or Pirelli P Zero.

Paying Respect
Officine Fioravanti says: An F40 is a masterpiece meant to be driven, not merely displayed. And we agree, we think that all cars should be driven as much as possible. It is, after all, why cars exist in the first place. However, does an F40 really need upgrading? Is part of its allure not that it is a beast that needs taming? You don’t see companies dialing out lag from 930 Porsches, as to do so would fundamentally change the car’s character. We reached out to a friend of Double Apex who owns an F40 and he had the following feedback for us:
“The (Pirelli) P7 was designed for this car, so there is no need for more in that department. Track days are a challenge with the standard calipers, but if you upgrade the brakes – you will need to change the rims. The suspension doesn’t need an upgrade other than perhaps bushes in a stiffer material. Frankly, just buy an LM if the standard version doesn’t work for you. The standard F40 is nothing short of amazing. Every time behind the wheel, even after a coffee break, stirs up the emotions.”
