The world’s largest aftermarket auto gathering, the SEMA Show, takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. To celebrate its participation, Nissan USA created the Nissan Motorsports Project Clubsport 23.

Off the shelf

Nissan Motorsports Project Clubsport 23 was created using parts that buyers can buy from their local Nissan dealer or off-the-shelf from any number of reputable aftermarket suppliers. Some of the brands involved in the project are Sparco, Rays, Z1 Motorsports, AMS, NISMO, KW suspension from haltech and Eibach.

A bespoke powerplant

While most other parts of the car are easily obtained, Nissan Motorsports Project Clubsport 23 boasts a unique powertrain.

Nissan Motorsports and MA Motorsports ditched the original 3,7-litre VQ37VHR engine in favour of a factory 3,0-litre VR30DDTT twin-turbocharged V6 rated at 300 kW. The 370Z NISMO’s six-speed manual transmission was retained. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a Pro-Carbon differential.

Upgrades to the powerplant include an AMS Performance Cold Air Intake kit and Z1 Motorsports blow-off valves. Dual 76 mm exhaust system. Factory cooling and steering systems were upgraded with an AMS Performance heat exchanger, MA Motorsports power steering cooler and Z1 Motorsports radiator and intercooler silicone coolant hoses.

Brakes and suspension

The braking system was upgraded using NISMO HC Street/Track brake pads acting on Z1Motorsports 2-piece slotted discs. The suspension modifications include NISMO front and rear suspension components, NISMO 3-piece body brace set, KW Variant 3 coilovers kit and Eibach rear springs.

Aggressive looks

The appearance of Nissan Motorsports Project Clubsport 23 is beefed up. It features factory NISMO panels with an APR honeycomb carbon-fibre splitter/MA Motorsports air dam at the front. A modified rear bumper to allows better cooling and house the exhaust tips. A Selbon TS-style carbon-fibre bonnet with Aerocatch hood pins and NISMO carbon fiber mirror covers and pillar garnishes.

The final part of the styling exercise consists of NISMO-branded RAYS cast aluminium-alloys measuring 18 inches wrapped in Hankook RS4 285/35R18 high-performance tyres.
